#intro I like building things.

I've spent the last few years writing code for startups in the Silicon Cape, namely Personera, Motribe, Obox Themes, Mxit, Superbalist & Bikehub. All of which have been amazing experiences.

In their own ways they've granted me the opportunity to learn and build with a great number of different technologies, notably but not limited to:

  • JavaScript (jQuery / Angular / Node.js), PHP (Laravel, CodeIgniter, Zend), Python (Django), Vagrant, Apache, Nginx, Memcached, MySQL, MongoDB, Neo4j, Redis, Git, etc.
  • Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Heroku. A bunch of Linux (Ubuntu) server management.
  • Third party API integration such as the Mxit platform, print service providers CafePress / MerchMo and payment providers PayPal / iVeri / 2Checkout.com. Dynamic PDF / PNG creation & manipulation.

#whois

Who am I is a touch existential so here are the basics: my full name is Nicholas de Merindol Malan, a mouthful I know. Nic will do. Born and bred South African I come bundled with the ability to communicate proficiently in English, conversational Afrikaans, drivers license & good sense of humour.

A few things I enjoy: making photos, a little bit of writing, music, analytics, data, the internet, side projects, working with smart & passionate people, solving problems, results.

My recent kindle history looks something like this along with a ton of random internet articles:

#fun facts

At the core I really like building things and progress.

I can type >100 words per minute on a good day.

I like to have strong, informed opinions. Along with wanting to try and understand everything. This means I sometimes ask a lot of questions.

♫♪♩ I tend to sing a lot about completely random things ♬♫♪♩♬

I've managed to get my domain-name-buying-addiction under control.

Q3 is my favourite game of all time, I played a fair emount of TF2 pickups when it was first starting out along with flying helicopters in BF3/BF4. Currently playing CS:GO & PUBG.

As much as I appreciate good design, and like to think I have good taste. This site shows I'm no designer. I owe a lot to Bootstrap and it's amazingness .

Thanks!
